Embroidering On the Photographic Image: in person with Robert Mahar

Feb052023

From 1:30 pm until 4:30 pm

At Brigid's Loft

$95 (includes materials)

This class is full. If you'd like to be placed on a waiting list, contact Dana at events@bazaargirls.com.

Re-imagine the family photo album and learn how to transform classic black & white photographic images with colorful embroidered embellishments. Join artist and maker Robert Mahar in learning core embroidery basics, essential stitches, and how to apply them to a selection of vintage photographs custom printed onto linen cotton canvas.

Do you have a yearbook photo that needs a makeover? A group portrait that doesn’t quite convey the joy of the occasion? This workshop is a unique approach to needlework utilizing a non-traditional, free-form sampler that allows you to utilize your favorite embroidery stitches and determine their placement. While you’ll experiment and play with some of Robert’s favorite vintage photos, you’ll also learn how to have your own images printed on fabric for future projects, turning your own photo archive into wall-ready works of art.

This class is well suited for beginners, however, students with more embroidery experience are encouraged to join for a fun refresher course and the opportunity to apply their skills to photographic imagery.

All materials (a custom 18x27” sampler with 10 photographic images, practice fabric, a limited palette of embroidery floss, wood hoop, and needle!) along with instructional diagrams are provided and included in the cost of the class. However, if you have favorite embroidery tools or prefer specific colors of embroidery floss (6-strand or perle) you are encouraged to bring these items to the workshop.

    Hi Carolyn,

You should have received a confirmation email when you registered. I’m not sure why you didn’t. Also, you will be hearing from Dana soon. She will send out class details. In the meantime, if you have any questions you can email her at events@bazaargirls.com.

I love his work and I am so excited to meet him in person and get some new tips! I am even working on some calendars for Christmas based on one that he posted on Instagram!
