Jump into the Deep End with Brioche
Increases and Decreases
This is the next step after you've learned the basics of a two-color Brioche rib. You'll learn most of the increases and decreases on the first patterning round, and then have lots of relaxing brioche rib before the next increases and decreases. We will learn and practice double and quadruple increases, left- and right-leaning double decreases, and get an introduction to quadruple decreases. We’ll also learn more about reading your brioche knitting and fixing more mistakes.
Technique Requirements: Knit/purl, cast on/bind off, work in the round, know how to work two-color brioche rib. This is not a beginning brioche class. If you missed the Intro to Brioche class, please get up to speed by checking out Michele's tutorials on her blog, pdxknitterati.com. That will prepare you for this class; this class will prepare you for the next step: Syncopation in Brioche, on April 3.
Supplies for Class: One light-colored and one dark-colored worsted weight yarn, 100 yards each (example: Blue Sky Woolstok, available in the shop); 16" US 6 circular needle; stitch markers. A row counter is helpful, too. (You may use a 24” needle for the cowl, but it may be tight, depending on your gauge.
Homework: Cast on and work through the four set-up rounds for the Deep End Hat as indicated in the pattern (brioche rib), or the setup rounds for Deep End Cowl or Madrona Cowl. The pattern is included in your class fee and will be sent to you when you register.
Hi Claudette,
I imagine so. Dana would know for sure. Her email address is events@bazaargirls.com.
