Make It Your Own: Raglan Sweater with Ann Budd

Jan222022

From 9:30 am until 11:30 am

At Zoom Meeting

$200 + book + materials

Class dates: Jan. 22 & 29; Feb. 5, 12 & 26; Mar. 12. All classes will meet from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Pacific Time via Zoom. Sessions will be recorded, so if the time doesn't work for you, you can sign up anyway and you'll receive a recording after the class.

In this six-lesson online class, you’ll learn how to use the charted instructions in “The Knitter’s Handy Book of Top-Down Sweaters” to design and knit a Raglan sweater with help from Ann Budd every step of the way. You’ll choose the weight of yarn (from fingering to bulky) and the finished size (from 26” to 54” bust/chest circumference). Everyone will follow the same basic instructions, though it’s quite possible that no two students will use the same size, gauge, or stitch pattern.

In the first lesson, Ann will guide you through choosing the correct size, knitting a proper gauge swatch, and showing how to add a simple stitch pattern. In the following moderated knit-along sessions, Ann will demonstrate each of the key steps in knitting a top-down sweater (no seams!). In addition to providing tips and tricks and answering questions along the way, Ann will discuss how to make simple modifications so you can customize your pattern.

By the end of class, you’ll be able to follow (and adapt) any of the 300 charted patterns for four armhole styles in “The Knitter’s Handy Book of Top-Down Sweaters.”

In preparation for class:

·      Obtain a copy of “The Knitter’s Handy Book of Top-Down Sweaters.”

·      Choose a yarn from fingering to bulky weight (3 to 7 stitches/inch); a yarn that’s at least 75% wool will be easiest to work with. Ann will send registered students a sheet with yardage requirements upon registration.

·      Have a sweater on hand that fits the way you like (preferably one knitted with close to the same weight yarn as you plan to use).
