New to e-spinners and maybe spinning too? Bring your e-spinner and join us for a hands-on introduction to spinning with electric power! Whether you’re brand new to spinning or an experienced wheel or spindle spinner looking to go electric, this class will get you comfortable with your machine. We’ll cover setup, adjusting speed and tension, and controlling twist so you can spin smoothly and consistently.

Never spun before? We gently introduce key concepts of drafting, spinning direction, and control. Already know how to spin? We’ll help you transition your skills to an e-spinner so you can spin more efficiently with less effort, without relying on a treadle for rhythm.

By the end of class, you’ll have the skills and knowledge to put your e-spinner to work—giving you the control, efficiency, and freedom to create the yarns you’ve been dreaming of.

Amelia Garripoli learned to knit at her mother’s knee; her fiber journey blossomed in 2001 with a home—and llamas—of her own. Since then, she has explored spinning, weaving, dyeing, nalbinding, and sock machines. A passionate teacher, she leads workshops at fiber festivals, guilds, and e-spinning Zoom classes. Her work appears in Spin-Off and Ply, and she’s the author of Productive Spindling, Power Spinning, and two Spin-Off spindle videos. She spins, weaves, and plays string games as she explores fiber festivals across America. Find her at askthebellwether.com.

Materials included in the materials fee:

A handout with key concepts and notes, and fiber for spinning.

What students need to bring:

An e-spinner in working condition with 3 bobbins and a lazy kate; it's fine if the bobbins are not empty. A battery is recommended, but there are power sources in the room.
