Pi Shawl Exploration: Make a Mini Pi Shawl with Bristol Ivy
Join Bristol Ivy as she introduces us to the concept of the Pi Shawl: an ingenious mathematical relationship between a circle's radius and its circumference. Bristol will explain the math, and then lead students in the knitting of a 12"-diameter mini Pi Shawl that can be used as an earring holder or wall hanging. By the end of the class, you’ll be well on your way to a finished piece that combines art, math, handwork, and our joy in yarn—what’s not to love?
Supplies: about 200 yds. worsted weight yarn; US 8 or 9 needles, one set in each of the following styles: double-pointed, 16” circular, 24” circular; a 12" embroidery hoop (available in the shop); tapestry needle; locking stitch marker. If you'd like to use a smaller hoop, Bristol will help you adjust your size.
