We are delighted to welcome Michele Lee Bernstein, a Portland-based teacher, and designer, to teach a series of Brioche classes for us. Brioche is the current "it" knit: a fascinating technique that incorporates yarn overs and slip stitches to make a lush, plump, warm fabric that can be used for anything from hats, mittens, and scarves to larger items such as throws and sweaters. We will be knitting two colors in the round (the easiest way to learn Brioche); students will learn the basic Brioche rib while knitting a simple headband. We'll also learn how to fix common mistakes in Brioche. Prepare to be amazed.
Skill level: Intermediate
Supplies: Two 100-yard skeins of Blue Sky "Woolstok," or another comparable worsted-weight yarn: one light and one dark color; one 16" circular needle, size 6; one stitch marker for beginning of round; note-taking materials.
Homework: with dark color, loosely cast on 72 sts. using long-tail cast-on. Join to work in the round, then knit one round. Bring yarn to the front and leave it hanging there.
Michele Lee Bernstein (pdxknitterati.com), designs and teaches in Portland, OR. She loves designing accessories, especially if they use one or two skeins of very special yarn. She loves teaching knitters to be the boss of their knitting!
Happy to hear that. Thanks for the feedback!
Brilliant class. Definitely signing up for her next class: increasing and decreasing in brioche.
Yes, all of our class times are posted in pacific time.
Please note Time Zone – I’m assuming, since Ms. Bernstein lives in Portland, this is Pacific Time.
Thanks.
