This class will give an introduction to modular knitting techniques. Modular knitting opens so many doors, allowing you to easily make size-inclusive garments and decoratively use small bits of yarn; it is the ultimate stash-buster! This is a hands-on class that shows examples and explains their techniques. Students will receive a class outline and work on a modular mug rug during class using DK-weight yarn. Each student will also receive a download code for a Shanalines Designs modular pattern to work on beyond class time.
You will learn: about the structure of modular garter stitches; how to pick up stitches along slipped selvage; and tidy finishing techniques. This will prepare you for further exploration of this versatile technique.
Prerequisites: know how to make a knit stitch, read a pattern, and be curious!
Supplies: Two or more colors of DK-weight yarn, approx. 30 g. total; US #3 circular knitting needle, 32" or size needed to get a gauge of 22 st/44 rows = 4" in garter stitch; smooth waste yarn, in contrast, color; crochet hook for provisional cast-on (similar size to your knitting needle); three locking stitch markers; tapestry needle; scissors; tape measure.
