Tea Cozies for the Boiler Room

Charity Knit

Bazaar Girls Charity Knit (and Crochet) Project #2:

Coffee Sleeves for the Boiler Room!

Before we get into the details for our next charity project, we must take a moment to say thank you and WOW regarding our first charity project. In early February, we mailed off 95 handmade hats to Canada for newly arriving refugees as part of the 25,000 Tuques project. Thank you to everyone who made hats and donated yarn!

Since our first project was globally-focused, for Project #2, we’re going to look closer to home. Just around the corner, in fact.

For the March/April project, we will be knitting and crocheting coffee sleeves for the Boiler Room. The Boiler Room will sell our coffee sleeves and proceeds will go to their programs of free food and job training.

So here is our plan for Project #2:

  • Our group work sessions will be from 10am-2pm on Sunday, March 13 and Sunday, April 10.

  • One completed sleeve will generally take about 90 minutes to complete, even for a leisurely-paced knitter or crocheter, so it should be easy to complete an entire project at the session.

  • We will have baked goods, tea, and good company at each work session.

  • Come for all or part of one or both sessions.

  • If you can’t make either, knit or crochet along at home! Attendance is not mandatory to participate.

  • We’ll have donated yarn available for use.

  • Needles and crochet hooks might be in a little shorter supply, so please bring your own if you have them, but if you don’t, please don’t let that discourage you from participating! We’ll be happy to track some down if you have time but not equipment.

  • If you don’t have time to participate, but have yarn, needles, and/or hooks to donate, we’ll take them happily!

  • We have a collection of free patterns assembled on Ravelry – check them out here online, and we’ll have print-outs available during the sessions.

  • We’ll collect all finished sleeves at the April 10 session.

  • Hey Knitters! Do you want to add to your fiber skills repertoire? Leslie will also be teaching some basic crochet to make a basic sleeve during the work sessions for this project. (Crochet lesson will start around 11am.) Coffee sleeves are a very simple and easy project for learning to crochet.

  • If you have questions, please feel free to email Leslie at fps.lqs@gmail.com.
